Lovely

springtime in an orchard, a path beckons the viewer onward and the pink blossoms are infused with radiant sunlight

Happy Easter!

Happy Spring!

Happy Birthday!

Rise up from the tomb of gloom,

Rise up from your old ways and be not afraid,

Rise up to newness of life!

The Beautiful One is calling you, can’t you hear?

At the opening, your Lord awaits you, can’t you see?

Why tarry in hesitancy,

why linger in regret, weighed down with your worries?

Every day is a resurrection from the death of the past,

every dawning the birth of eternal hope.

Rejoice, my soul, and be glad!

For this day you are redeemed,

this day you are a New Creation,

particularly loved by the Beloved

Who delights in you

and will never lose you from His Sacred Heart.

Listen, taste, and see…

Song of Songs 2

My beloved speaks and says to me:
“Arise, my love, my beautiful one,
and come away,
for behold, the winter is past;
the rain is over and gone.
The flowers appear on the earth,
the time of singing has come,
and the voice of the turtledove
is heard in our land.
The fig tree ripens its figs,
and the vines are in blossom;
they give forth fragrance.
Arise, my love, my beautiful one,
and come away.
O my dove, in the clefts of the rock,
in the crannies of the cliff,
let me see your face,
let me hear your voice,
for your voice is sweet,
and your face is lovely.”[i]

Although crippled by disease, I'm fully alive in love. I write about the terrible beauty and sacred wonder of life, while living with physical disability and severe dependency. A revert to the Catholic faith through atheism, I'm not afraid to ask life's big questions. I explore what it means to be fully human through my weekly blog and have written a book: It's Good to Be Here, published by Sophia Institute Press.

  1. Christina, Absolutely beautiful!!
    So true, Easter is a perfect time to “ Rise up from our old ways and be not afraid” – as St John Paul the great would say, “never ever give up on Hope. Never dought, never tire, and never become discouraged. BE NOT AFRAID.”
    with Divine Mercy Sunday approaching, we can transform our hearts and trust in the sacred heart of Jesus. No matter what challenges we are facing, knowing we have Jesus to console us is our ultimate light to Persevere.
    What hurts Jesus most? Our lack of Trust in Him!
    Jesus, I Trust You

    • Thank you for reflecting with me and for sharing the quotes from St. Pope John Paul! When I wrote this post, I wasn’t thinking about Divine Mercy Sunday, but you have beautifully shown how trusting in the mercy of Christ is exactly what we need to fearlessly rise up from our old ways and live the newness of life in Him! Yes… Jesus, I trust in You
