Novena for Life Day One
I will be joining with other Christians who respect life to pray for the conversion of hearts and minds so that the practice of abortion — the intentional, sometimes brutal ending of an innocent life — will no longer be practiced because it will no longer be wanted.
“May the tragic practice of abortion end.” This is the simple prayer for day one of the novena. I find the reflection for this first day beautiful and essential right from the first lines, which state:
At every stage and in every circumstance, we are held in existence by God’s love. The presence of an illness, disability, or other challenging situation never diminishes the value of a human life. God does not call us to perfection of appearance or abilities, but to perfection in love. Christ invites us to embrace our own lives and the lives of others as true gifts.
As the novena continues, we will grow in praying simple yet powerful prayers that further unfold what it means to be truly pro-life. I invite all of you to pray with me in this movement. I know that there is a division amongst pro-lifers at the moment, a division caused by politicians. I know that I won’t be the only one not watching the second inauguration of Donald Trump. But I also know that we all can stand together as one to give voice to the voiceless, to support women in need, and to bring to reality the truth that every human life is sacred.

Although crippled by disease, I'm fully alive in love. I write about the terrible beauty and sacred wonder of life, while living with physical disability and severe dependency. A revert to the Catholic faith through atheism, I'm not afraid to ask life's big questions. I explore what it means to be fully human through my weekly blog and have written a book: It's Good to Be Here, published by Sophia Institute Press.
