Mother’s Day

Virgin Mary in a month of May with flowers

What did Omnipotent God first need in order to become a human being and bring about His divine plan of salvation?

A mother.

Let’s give thanks for and to all of the mothers that we know, especially our own!

God chose to intimately experience our dependency upon other human beings, starting with the fragile dependency upon His own mother as He developed in her virginal womb. Every human being shares this common bond of dependency. None of us would exist without a mother.

In this month of May, with Our Blessed Mother Mary, let us pray for all mothers who are afraid to be mothers, for all of those who find themselves pregnant and desperate. May God reveal to them the beauty of life and of their own motherhood, so that they may have true love for the beating hearts of their own children; may God help them choose the loving gift of adoption when it is His holy will; and may they experience the help of true Christians throughout their lives. Amen.

Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us!

Although crippled by disease, I'm fully alive in love. I write about the terrible beauty and sacred wonder of life, while living with physical disability and severe dependency. A revert to the Catholic faith through atheism, I'm not afraid to ask life's big questions. I explore what it means to be fully human through my weekly blog and have written a book: It's Good to Be Here, published by Sophia Institute Press.

  1. What a sweet, tender piece like only you can deliver. I miss my mother so much every day, but mostly on this special day set aside every year. Thank you for putting into words what I have in my heart (as is your special gift!).
