Pearls

This poetic prayer, which came to me not long ago, seems appropriate to share with the upcoming Feasts of All Saints and All Souls, as well as the impending US election.

Lord, I am weak, and I need You.

I seek your remedy and protection, because my heart beats within the mantle of Your Sacred Heart. Whenever I am frustrated, Lord, whenever an injury, fear, or irritation comes into my life, comes into my heart, please take this difficulty and bathe it in Your love. Cover it over and encase it in Your blood-rich love, and make of it a patient pearl of mercy, a precious pearl of wisdom, a luminous and beautiful rarity … a pearl beyond price that You have worked in me at the cost of Your Passion, Your life-giving love richly shed in the blood of Your mercy.

Lord, may this wondrous pearl be as food for one who is in most need of blessing. May this other soul desire to consume its beauty, pure and whole, and so be fed the healing power of Your love, guarded from harm and strong in mercy, always.

Or, if it be Your will, Lord, gather the pearls that were once my fears, irritations, and wounds, which are now tender gems of divine love — gather them together and fuse them with grace onto the sure threads of Your mercy, making of them a chain to bind me to Heaven, to pull me ever deeper and more securely into Your eternally present love.

Ever in your Most Sacred Heart,
