The Myth about Stars

The myth about stars

is that they’re far

from where we are.

You, to a grain of sand at distant end of beach,

may seem colossally out of reach

‘midst vast and varied phenomena,

as is our Sun to Andromeda.

But you could soon traverse the space

arriving freely at the place

where sits the astonished bit of sand

and scoop its galaxy in hand.

Pure stardust blown by breath divine, diversity

of form and kind, all wonder-worlds for you and me:

bright clouds of fish that swim the deep,

profusive blooms from meadow’s weep

of seeds, clear raindrops pooled below

to gather streaming’s river flow

a-sea in waves that stroke the beach

like fingers stretching out to reach,

in awe, the wealth of stars above…

Nothing’s far in the bond of Love.

Although crippled by disease, I'm fully alive in love. I write about the terrible beauty and sacred wonder of life, while living with physical disability and severe dependency. A revert to the Catholic faith through atheism, I'm not afraid to ask life's big questions. I explore what it means to be fully human through my weekly blog and have written a book: It's Good to Be Here, published by Sophia Institute Press.

  1. Ahhhh…..I’d love to peek into your mind where all that beauty lives just waiting to come out your fingers and leap onto a page so my eyes and heart are soothed and reassured. I love your genius, Christina!
