Holy Words

Surely, I’m too little to make a difference. What good can my small act of kindness possibly do in this messed up world?

In the beginning of October, we celebrate a holy man and a holy woman who were quite simple in their earthly lives — and who have become great in Heaven. St. Thérèse of Lisieux is honored on October 1 and St. Francis of Assisi on October 4. So, in this last reflection of September 2022, I’m sharing some memes that express the greatness of their littleness and what they have to teach us about the importance of doing small and simple things with real love.

Do little things with love…

Although crippled by disease, I'm fully alive in love. I write about the terrible beauty and sacred wonder of life, while living with physical disability and severe dependency. A revert to the Catholic faith through atheism, I'm not afraid to ask life's big questions. I explore what it means to be fully human through my weekly blog and have written a book: It's Good to Be Here, published by Sophia Institute Press.

  1. Thank you so very much, Christina! Exquisite timing, perfect topic, the very memes I needed today! And you know, these little things send ripples all the way around the world, around the universe, for Eternity! Even if only one person read this blog entry with its theme and memes – it changes the world for the better, forever!

Thank you thank you thank you and God bless your dear heart, so enamored of the Beloved’s Most Sacred Heart! Know that He, the Divine Madman is crazy foolish in love with *you*, and He is a jealous Lover, A jealous Bridegroom! He allows you to be hidden and vulnerable because His Sacred and Loving Heart wants you all for Himself! You know this from reading Saint Therese! You know this in your heart – the special and intimate love gifts He gives you in prayer and also “out of the blue”. Jesus keeps you in a hidden and secret garden where He makes trysts with you as if you were His only beloved. And when you are outside stargazing – every star, every planet, every breathtaking moonlit night: Jesus created each glorious token as courting gift for you! So much more glorious than chocolates and roses! Each star in the sky is Jesus blowing kisses at you! But of course, that’s nothing compared to Holy Communion. I appreciate your writing so deeply. Thank you for being there! Life was unusually horrible today, and you helped pick me back up.

    • Thank you, Christine, for reflecting with me! We all need a pick me up now and again, and we definitely all benefit from words of encouragement and comfort. So thank you for your words here! Yes, the little things we do send ripples through eternity!

What you wrote about Jesus the Bridegroom is beautiful. Are you familiar with Hope’s Garden? https://hopesgarden.com/ I will need to write on this particular subject sometime. Looking forward to your future comments and keeping you in my prayers,
